They have pet wipes at local pet stores or pet stores like pet-smart and they help take away the smell. Do you clean the hamster's cage daily? If you not cleaning every couple of days then that's why the hamster smells so much. They have cage bottle sprays that you spray in the cage and can help take the smell away.
Never ever spray perfume near or in the same room with any animal because they have noses that are so much sensitive than ours and can make them sick or sneeze and they can even be allergic to them.
Buy some pet wipes or cage bottle sprayer that has a scent thing and can take away the smell for you.
~EDIT: Are you thumbing down everyone's answer because they are not giving the exact answer that you want to hear. Again sorry if that is the case I would not suggest doing that because it will make the hamster sick and since you said you heard that it was not good for them in the first place then the answer of course would be not to do it. They sell at pet stores and local pet stores cage smell cleaners that you spray in the cage to make it smell fresher and less smelly or the pet wipes that they have and wipe down your pet to make them smell cleaner.Both do work and I use them but not all the time.

How often do you clean your hamster's cage? At least once a week? Do you scoop out soiled shavings and poop regularly, between weekly cage cleanings?Because if you do that then it should not smell that bad.
I don't think the perfume would be good for a hamster considering how much they use their nose all the time. Who knows, the chemicals in the fumes might cause cancer or something. Perfumes aren't even good for humans, although they are not immediately toxic when inhaled.
I wouldn't suggest it. The hamster could inhale the fumes or something. I think you can buy air freshners that are labeled ';Pet Safe'; but I am not positive. Try hanging one of those pine tree air freshners near the cage maybe. Or you could groom your hamster and it might not smell.

It's not a good idea if you ask me. If the perfume somehow got into the bedding in the cage, and the hamster is touching the bedding and inhaling the fumes, it could be deadly.
I would def not recomend it because hamsters are extremy sensitive to smells, try these few ideas:

no you must not spray any kind of aerosol near any pets,if you think about it, it takes our breath away, and it can cause allot of respiratory problems.if you have to spray anything please remove your pets for at least half an hour first.
I wouldn't recommend it. They have delicate respiratory systems. If they inhale that, then it could be deathly to them. Try cleaning the cage because hamsters aren't suppose to smell to the point you can tell
I wouldn't really do that because hamsters have upper respiratory problems and it could cause them to have a problem so i would buy ';Pet Safe'; air freshner.

Why do people spray their perfume or cologne on so strong?
Are they using so much to cover up body odor? Don't they realize that some people in the world are allergic to scents and like myself, being around someone with that much perfume or cologne on can cause an asthma attack??? I totally agree...I have COPD and Asthma, and I was once told that the right amount of perfume to wear is applied by spraying the perfume/cologne at arm's length and walking through the mist. Be careful to point the mist left or right of you, depending on which side you are holding the bottle of perfume or cologne. If no sprayer, then dab with little finger after blotting on tissue before applying.

If you can get the bath oil that matches your favorite perfume use that after bathing then use your fragrance. Bath oils are usually a strong form of the scent plus the oils help set your perfume. If you apply perfume immediately after you get out of the shower (while your skin is still moist) it will also have the same effect. 2. Spray once near the base of your neck where your ';baby hairs'; are located. Perfume adheres to hair very well, but because it contains alcohol you don't want to spray it to the top part of your hair because it will dry out your hair.
3. Spray on pulse points (insides of elbows, neck, wrist, etc.) or where your body is warmest (such as your chest). These areas of the body heat up throughout the day which will release a burst of your fragrance everytime it heats up.
4. Spray low. As your body heat releases it will rise upwards making you smell good so spray the back of your knees where the leg bends.
If all else fails you can carry a small bottle of your perfume around for touch-ups throughout the day or buy a new perfume. Some perfumes last longer than others. The two perfumes I have that last all day without reapplying are Juicy by Juicy Couture (the original one) and Dolce %26amp; Gabanna's Light Blue. Best of luck!

And as you body heats it continues to emanate the sent. If you're going out to a club or a bar in which you're sure you're going to sweat, put some cologne on the outside of your shirt (not too much mind you), and then some deodorant and put it on your chest.
By the time you start sweating, the cologne would have worn off, and you'll simply start smelling like your deodorant.
